- Q: How long will CNA classes and training take?A: The reason that Colorado CNA programs are so attractive is because they take almost no time at all. The program length depends on how many hours per week you study, which can vary depending on where you choose to do your training. Altogether though, you are required to complete 80 hours of training that will consists of both traditional CNA classes and hands-on learning.
- Q: I don’t know if being a certified nursing assistant is right for me, can you tell me more?A: The Colorado Department of Labor and Employment has predicted an estimated 30% growth for CNAs over the course of the next few years. This number indicates that not only are their ample opportunities for employment, but for growth and job security as well.
- Q: Where can I find CNA classes in Colorado?A: There are a great deal of locations that offer state approved CNA programs. These programs are offered through vocational schools, hospitals, home health care agencies, long-term care facilities and private companies. Please note that only the CNA training programs on this list are approved and will make you eligible for examination and certification. You can find the entire list here.
- Q: How much money does a CNA make in Colorado?A: The average starting salary for a CNA in Colorado is about $26,000 per year. If you become employed by a private agency or a hospital, that amount can vary. Most facilities offer a comprehensive benefits package and 401K matching as well.
- Q: What will we study in CNA classes?A: A number of items will need to be reviewed during your classes and practical programs. These include anything from general medical terms to more in depth nursing skills like restorative care, mental health awareness, interpersonal skills and disease prevention.
- Q: How do I become CNA certified?A: In order to become a Certified Nursing Assistant in Colorado, you must seek out certification, upon successful completion of your classes and training program, no later than 4 months post-completion. There are two ways to certify, either through examination or endorsement. Endorsement means that you hold a license in another state and are seeking permission to transfer your license to Colorado. See the question below for information on Examination.
- Q: What is needed to take my Colorado CNA exam?A: You will have to have completed, and be able to show proof of completion from one of the state approved CNA programs. If you are a foreign-trained nurse, or a nursing student who has completed five semester credits, you can apply to write the exam as well.
- Q: Where do I take my exam and what materials do I need?A: You can register to take your exam upon completion of your training program through Pearson Vue. They provide the candidate handbook, application form, proof of training and SSN affidavit, your equipment list and the most up to date regional testing sites and testing schedules.
- Q: How long is my license good for?A: Licenses are issued by the Department of Regulatory Agencies Board of Nursing and are good for a period of no more than 24 months, or two years. You can get more information about renewal and fees here.
- Q: Where can I work when I become a certified nursing assistant in Colorado?A: After you have completed the CNA classes, training and examination and become certified, you can work anywhere that licensed CNA’s work. This means a hospital environment or nursing home and home healthcare. Video Salary
