The Minnesota Department of Health provides a detailed listing of all of the state approved CNA programs that offer CNA classes in Minnesota. You can either access the entire list here or enter your city information on this page to search for the closest facility to you.
You will find that some organizations offer free or low-cost CNA programs while others might pay for your classes if you agree to work at their facility assuming that you successfully complete both the training program and pass the examination. This is an opportunity to ensure that you become employed straight out of school, which is more than can be said for the 50% of college graduates who are not working in their desired field.
CNA classes in Minnesota have to be a minimum of 75 hours in length and can cost anywhere between $0 up to $2,000 depending on which location you choose to study at. There are actually 2 approved sets of classes for the state of Minnesota, and facilities can choose either or a combination of the two.
Did You Know….Even if you are not currently registered as a CNA, you can work as one? In the state of Minnesota, you can be hired on as a Certified Nursing Assistant so long as you immediately enroll in one of the state approved courses at the time that you are hired. You must complete both the course and the examination within 4 months from the time that you start working to become licensed.
Getting On The CNA Registry In MinnesotaOnce you have completed the required CNA training and passed the exam, you then become placed on the registry. There is no fee to get onto the registry and no fee for renewal. You cannot have a lapse in your employment in order to stay active on the registry.
You will need to be able to show that you worked for pay as a CNA in Minnesota at least 8 hours in a 24-month period. For the purpose of identification, your Social Security Number will be your identification number. While the state of Minnesota does not have any in-service requirements, there is a Federal in-service requirement. This obligates facilities to provide CNA’s with a minimum of 12 hours per year of specific in-service classes and training.
