The Kind Of Places You Should Expect To Work in

Certified nursing assistants often work in hospitals.  They help nurses to provide basic care and comfort for patients. A CNA will often take vital signs and answer call bells for patients who are admitted to the hospital.  A CNA might even work to monitor vitals and help to keep patients comfortable in an ER setting.

CNA jobs can be found in rehabilitation centers.  They aid other staff members in making sure a patient is safe and well cared for while at the rehabilitation center.  Sometimes CNAs are even hired to work at physical therapy or occupational therapy centers.

Nursing assistants generally make up a large portion of the staff at continuing care communities.  They are in particularly high demand in skilled nursing homes or the skilled nursing departments of long-term care facilities.  A CNA in this job setting will help residents with grooming, eating and other activities of daily living.

A CNA can find work with a home health agency.  Home health agencies hire nurses to provide care for patient’s who are chronically ill or people who have lifelong physical or mental disabilities.  Sometimes a CNA will also work with elderly patients who do not wish to live in a long-term care community.

There are many ways for a certified nursing assistant to find a job.  In some cases, the CNA training program that a person completes offers job placement services.  These services will help newly certified nursing assistants to find employment opportunities.  Newly certified nursing assistants should also visit local job fairs.

Nursing assistants can inquire at healthcare facilities and home health agencies about employment opportunities.  It does not hurt to submit a resume or application even if a place is not currently hiring.  Quality CNAs are often in high demand and a job opening could appear sooner than later.

Some nursing assistants might start out by working on a part-time basis or working on a per diem basis.  These jobs provide a good way to get your foot in the door with a good employer.  These jobs can also serve as a good option for people who are continuing their education in the healthcare industry but who need employment and experience.

Of course, CNA jobs can be found by searching newspaper classified ads.  Online classified ads can provide another way to find job openings in the certified nursing assistant sector.  A CNA could also post their own ad seeking employment as a private aid for someone who needs home health services.
