Red Cross CNA Training

If you are considering a career as a CNA, you should consider attending training through the American Red Cross. There are CNA training classes through the Red Cross in 36 cities throughout the United States.  You will benefit from a training course with a solid reputation that will prepare you will for a career as a nursing assistant if you are fortunate enough to have Red Cross training available in your area.

You will be more than ready to sit for the certified nursing assistant certification examination after completing a course offered by the Red Cross.  Your training will include classroom experience as well as practical skills training.  The CNA training course will teach you to take vital signs and provide a range of services for patients who are sick or injured.  For example, you will learn to help feed patients, to reposition those who are unable to move on their own and to change patients who are unable to use the restroom on their own.

Quick Tip: Not every state has a Red Cross CNA Class. To get a list of classes in your state, check out out database of CNA Classes by State

A Red Cross CNA Course will help you learn how to communicate with patients including those who are having difficulty understanding you or those who are frightened and anxious.  You will learn how to protect the privacy of each of your patients.  The course will help you to learn the best ways to aid a patient in maintaining their dignity.

It is important for you to realize that you should attend every scheduled class during your training.  It is possible that you will not be allowed to complete the course if you are missing classes or always arriving late.  When you take the certification exam, you will need to earn an 80% or better in order to pass the test and receive your certification.

The basic curriculum for Red Cross CNA training will be the same throughout the country.  If you live in a state where you are able to perform more duties than a certified nursing assistant in another state, you will also learn how to complete those tasks.  All Red Cross CNA training programs are designed to meet all state and federal requirements for certification.

The hours of training you must complete for your CNA training, will also vary among states.  Some courses will be as short as 3 weeks of full time training, while others will be more than 6 weeks of training.  Some Red Cross chapters are able to offer both daytime and evening courses in order to fit in with your schedule.

You should also be aware that the cost for CNA training will also depend on the city where you are attending training.  Some cities offer training for as little as $660 while other programs cost over $1700.  The price will often depend on the number of hours that you must receive training in that particular state.  This training is still not expensive when you consider the high quality of education you will receive through the Red Cross.  It is well worth the investment if you are looking to be well prepared for your certification examination and then for your new career.

Enrolling in a Red Cross Training Course

If you are interested in receiving nursing assistant training through the American Red Cross, you will need to search for any chapters in your area that offer training.  You can do so by contacting the Red Cross chapter in your area and asking for a referral to chapters in your state that offer nursing assistant training.

You cannot attend CNA training through the Red Cross until you are 18 years of age or older.  In order to complete training, you will need to be in overall good health.  If you have a health condition that you believe could hinder your abilities to work as a CNA, you should discuss this with the instructor for the course to determine if training is a good fit for you.

Generally speaking, you cannot enter into the Red Cross training program if you have been convicted of a felony within the last 7 years.  You should also note that certain crimes committed will prevent you from ever being able to work as a certified nursing assistant.  You should not have any communicable diseases and will need to be tested for TB in order to be enrolled in the course.

You are well on your way to starting a career in healthcare when you enroll in The Red Cross program.  This is one of the best training programs available and will have you well prepared for your certification exam.
