It is important to keep records of any training you receive within a 4 year period since the state of Florida will require that you complete 12 hours of in-service training each year.
In order to become a certified nursing assistant, you will need to attend and pass a CNA training course. Additionally, you will need to successfully pass the certification competency exam. Your education does not stop once you receive your nursing assistant certification. You will need to complete training each year in order to maintain an active certification. Additional training might sometimes be required by your employer as well. The CNA class at Learey, lasts for 165 hours and includes 40 clinical hours. They occasionally have evening classes if you can’t attend their regular morning classes. They don’t have them throughout the year so you will need to inquire beforehand. The tuition fees are just under $400 and is one of the cheaper training options in Florida. Together with books and other materials you will need to pay around $600 in total. You must be physically capable of performing the tasks required of a nursing assistant. You will also be required to pass a TB screen test and consent to a background check(this is a must for all healthcare workers)

They have a one day prep course. If you’ve let your license expire and have let it lapse for over 5 years, you will need to take the certification exam again. The 1 day course at SVU is a great way to prepare for the skills part of the exam. They have walkthroughs for each skill which helps you iron out any mistakes you might be doing. The course costs just $100 and includes a blood pressure kit, a study manual and a clinical skills checklist. You do not need to have a GED or a high school diploma to apply for this program,
